Mordiford CE Primary School is in the unique position of having a Forest School site. An area of West Wood has been cleared by the forestry commission for use by our pupils and staff. Children have equal access to the site, usually in small groups. All classes visit the site for a ‘block’ (once a week for six weeks) at some point in the academic year, but may also visit the site for one off sessions at any time, consent for this is given on entry into school. The journey to Forest School is part of the whole experience and usually takes no longer than 15 minutes. Whilst at the site the children work with a variety of tools and materials. No child is ever set up to fail and we have found these activities increase the child’s self esteem. Activities include: jewellery making (elder wood), map sticks, cooking, bug hunting, camouflage games, treasure hunts and drawing.

We value the help and support that parents give us with these visits and often ask that a parent accompany us on our journey, if you are able to assist us please mention this to class teachers. We have three Level 3 Forest school leaders and many other staff who have attended Level 1.
